Lorsque cette contraction est emp\u00each\u00e9e (par exemple par un substrat pour une dalle de b\u00e9ton, ou par une h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 non gonflante dans une roche \u00e0 matrice argileuse), des contraintes de traction se d\u00e9veloppent, qui peuvent conduire \u00e0 une fissuration du mat\u00e9riau.
