Par exemple, on peut observer une dilatation lorsqu\u2019on augmente la temp\u00e9rature d\u2019un mat\u00e9riau (ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de dilatation thermique), lorsqu\u2019on immerge un charbon dans un fluide (une cons\u00e9quence de l\u2019adsorption dans la microporosit\u00e9 de celui-ci), ou lorsqu\u2019un b\u00e9ton est en contact avec des sulfates (\u00e0 cause de la cristallisation d\u2019ettringite et\/ou de gypse).
