Natural hazards

Researches deal with the response of soils, rocks and geotechnical structures subjected to earthquakes, climate action, waves, wind, with special attention devoted to: (i) the behaviour of faults (including fault reactivation, earthquake nucleation, geological storage integrity); (ii) the behaviour of soils under earthquake loading (small strain properties of soils under cyclic loading and evaluation of the liquefaction properties under monotonic and cyclic loadings); (iii) the influence of climate on soil behaviour and geotechnical structures (mechanisms of water evaporation, effects of freezing/thawing cycles, desiccation cracking); (iv) Numerical modelling of deformation of fault systems with related instabilities generating seismic events.
